Do you work with young musicians who could be playing in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2017? Or are you based in the UK, aged 13-19 and interested in joining?

NYO is calling for talented and committed musicians to audition to join a truly 21st-century orchestra.

The orchestra comprises of 164 musicians aged 13-19 years old from across the UK, and welcomes applications from teenage musicians who play to Grade 8 distinction or equivalent standard, have a passion for orchestral music, a taste for adventure and great team spirit.

Talented teenage composers are also being recruited for a year of immersion in orchestral and creative opportunities.

Free auditions take place across the country, with travel bursaries available. The audition experience aims to be positive, friendly and constructive and all auditionees will receive a workshop and written feedback.

Audition candidates will also have the opportunity to become a young music leader and share their skills with other committed teenage musicians through NYO Inspire – offering breakthrough orchestral experiences to teenagers of all backgrounds. Bursaries are also available to cover the full cost of membership.

Being part of NYO is a fantastic opportunity for talented young musicians to take their music making to the highest level. They will work with world-class tutors and conductors, play in the UK’s greatest concert halls and forge lifelong friendships with like-minded musicians.

The application period for those wishing to join the orchestra in 2017 is 1 April - 1 June 2016.

ABRSM supports NYO Inspire Days, a programme of workshops that give young people the opportunity to work with NYO musicians to develop their musical skills, gain an insight into their work, and experience the thrill of performing in an orchestra.
