Lucy is Content Producer at ABRSM looking after the blog, our online magazine, Libretto, and a range of other written materials and resources. She has a musical background and studied the piano at the Royal Academy of Music. When not writing, commissioning and editing for ABRSM, Lucy enjoys spending time with her two young boys, baking and exploring the Essex countryside.

Lucy North, Content Producer at ABRSM ARSM (Associated of the Royal Schools of Music) is our newest assessment. Launched in January, it’s a performance-only diploma for musicians of any age who have passed their Grade 8. Hundreds of musicians have taken an ARSM so far. If you think this might be a good option for you or your students, why not take a look at some of our videos to see what’s involved?

Why take an ARSM?

In these three short films our Chief Examiner, John Holmes, talks about the benefits of taking an ARSM and how it fits with our Grade 8 and DipABRSM exams.

  • Why take an ARSM?
  • What is the relationship between Grade 8 and ARSM?
  • How will the ARSM help me prepare for DipABRSM (Music Performance)?

What is an ARSM performance like?

These videos feature candidates performing ARSM standard music. After each piece or song, John Holmes provides a commentary, referring to the ARSM marking criteria and giving an insight into what our examiners are looking for.
