COVID update

In response to the current restrictions in the UK and Ireland we are deferring Session 1 face-to-face practical exams at Public Venues and paper-based Grade 6 to 8 Music Theory exams at Public Venues and Private Visits. Where we can we will still offer practical exams at Private Visits. Our remotely-assessed Performance Grade and ARSM exams and our Grade 1 to 5 online Music Theory exams are unaffected and all dates remain unchanged. To read more, please visit our latest updates page.

Performance Grade booking

The next booking period for remotely-assessed Performance Grade and ARSM exams opens on 1 February. For details, see our dates and fees page.

ABRSM

As we enter the world of online theory exams, our Deputy Head of Learning and Qualifications is here to talk you through the refinements to our assessments and syllabus at Grades 1-5 in a bit more detail.

We will explain why we have made these updates, and how we are creating a more robust assessment which better supports our candidates.

What are the changes?

How do the updated exams better support our learners?

What is ABRSM’s process for updating the Music Theory syllabus and assessment?

How have we ensured the exam is robust and maintains standards?

Why are we using multiple-choice questions?

How have we ensured the exam is accessible for neurodiverse learners?

More information about ABRSM’s Online Music Theory exams can be found at abrsm.org/en/our-exams/online-theory/
