Online exam dates in 2020

Online exams for Grades 1 to 5 will be available in a limited number of territories to begin with. The first online Music Theory exam will be a live pilot for Grade 5 taking place on 26 August.  This exam is open to candidates in the UK.

We will offer further online exams at Grades 1 to 5 in the UK and selected territories in November, before rolling out online Music Theory exams at these grades worldwide during 2021.

We will make further announcements very soon to tell you when our online Music Theory exams will be available to you.

  • During 2021, we aim to introduce online assessment for all Grade 1 to 5 Music Theory exams worldwide. We will update you as soon as we know when these exams will be available to you.
  • Where online exams are available – paper-based exams will not be an option for these grades (except in very limited special circumstances).
  • Where online exams are not yet available – we will offer paper-based exams where we can do this safely and in line with government guidance.
  • Grades 6 to 8 remain as paper-based exams for everyone, worldwide. We will offer these exams where we can do this safely and in line with government guidance.
