How to book

Face-to-face practical exams and Grade 6 to 8 Music Theory exams

Candidates can take these exams at Public Venues provided by us or at Private Visits at an approved venue provided by the applicant/Visit Organiser.

Practical exams include: Practical Grades, ARSM, Prep Test and Performance Assessment. Grade 6 to 8 Music Theory is a paper-based exam. (Grades 1 to 5 are available as an online exam only.)

We have separate arrangements for Public Venue Jazz exams at our ABRSM Jazz Visits.

ABRSM exams and COVID

All our COVID information for forthcoming exams, including our amended cancellations policy, is available here.

For Public Venue exams, late booking will open on Monday 19 October. Once open please use the interactive map on the Online Booking Service for confirmation of which venues are open and still have space available for booking. You can do this without logging in or committing to a book an exam.

Before booking or attending any Public Venue exams, all visitors need to read the relevant COVID guidance found on our COVID information page here.

If you are organising a Private Visit (UK only at the moment) please read the important updates to our Private Visit Venue Guidance and Terms and Conditions before you book. These are available on our Private Visits page.

Remotely-assessed exams

These include Performance Grades and ARSM as well as Grades 1 to 5 Music Theory, which are only available as an online exam. Candidates can take these exams in a location of their own choice as long as this meets the requirements stated in the relevant guidelines.
